2 ST. NORBERT CATHOLIC CHURCH 2 Stewardship What do you want? What do you need? Imagine wearing the same dress, day in and day out, for one whole year. A Sea le woman, Alex Mar n, did exactly that. She made the biodegradable brown dress and wore it with different sweaters, jackets, hose, and a li le jewelry. She washed it every couple of days and hardly anyone no ced that she was wearing the same dress every single day. Mar n said she wanted to protest over-consump on and the intensive marke ng directed especially to women about what makes a person good, a rac ve, and interes ng. Clothes, accessories, and makeup are a big part of this image, and the investment of me, effort, and money in personal appearance is immense. While Alex Mar n is right in one respect we are pushed and prodded to buy stuff, o en to imitate a certain lifestyle portrayed in the media by many celebri es most of us aren t going to stop shopping altogether or make our own biodegradable clothing. Yet we s ll need to ask ourselves why we feel compelled to expend so much effort on our outer appearance. How does that stack up against the a en on we give to our inner self? Whom do we aim to impress? Ourselves? Other people? Why? In today s first reading King Solomon, already a rich man, could have asked God for more riches, the defeat of his enemies, or a long life. Instead, he asks for an understanding heart that knows right from wrong, so he can be er fulfill his responsibili es as king. God grants him wisdom, and he uses the gi not for himself alone but for the good of all. Perhaps you dream of winning the lo ery or making a fortune. Pray, rather, for the inner gi s you need to help build the kingdom of God. Copyright 2010, World Library Publica ons. All rights reserved. Sing with the Choir for a Day!! Respect Life Testimony My name is Joy Greco-Yanez and I m a first genera on American. I am a member of the St. Norbert Respect Life Team. Both my parents immigrated to the U.S. from Southern Italy. My father immigrated when he was very young leaving his large family to come to the U.S. for a be er life. He was sponsored by an uncle who had previously immigrated to the U.S. His uncle s sponsorship meant that he would be financially responsible for my father s immigra on to the U.S. by providing him a place to stay and obtaining work for him. My father started off working in a coal mine in a small town in Utah. He immediately learned to speak and write English, became a U.S. ci zen and eventually started working as a traveling salesman selling high end tailored suits to professionals. He invested in real estate and sent money back home to his family in Italy to help make their lives be er. On one of his trips back to Italy in 1954, he met and married my mother. In 1955, he brought her back to the U.S. I was born a year later. Italian was my first language. Our Catholic faith and our small li le church were a big part of our lives. We had lots of Italian friends who had also immigrated from Italy, including farmers, a shoemaker, owners of family stores/restaurants, the pediatrician that delivered many of us children and our parish priest. The most difficult part of immigra ng for my parents was leaving behind their close-knit large families in Italy, but they always expressed their gra tude for the opportunity for a be er life for themselves and their children. My parents also sponsored many of their family members to immigrate to the U.S. the same way my father s uncle had sponsored him. My mother has always been a homemaker taking care of the home, children, grandchildren and she also did some babysi ng as we were growing up. My parents ins lled in us hard work ethics, the importance of our Catholic faith, strong family es, Italian tradi ons, and always made us feel very proud to be Americans. Liturgical Tech Ministry We are introducing a new ministry whose mission it is to serve the liturgical assembly with projected song texts for Mass. We are looking for individuals who wish to serve our St. Norbert community as Liturgical Tech Ministers by helping with the PowerPoint slide presenta ons one Sunday per month as part of a bigger LTM team. If you are interested in being part of this ministry, please call John Erhard at (714) x126 or send an e- mail to Weekly Parish Offering Thank you for your con nuing support of St. Norbert Parish. For the fiscal year July 1, 2017, to June 30, 2018, our parish budget calls for $26,470 to be donated weekly at the Sunday collec on in order for the Parish to break even. Weekly collec ons that are less than $26,470 require the use of our reserve account to pay our expenses. The collec on for Sunday, July 23, was $25, These collec ons are not only for opera ng expenses each week, but also for any ongoing repair work, upgrades, etc. to our parish facility. Your regular dona ons are needed for the good of St. Norbert Parish and the spread of the Gospel.

Choir Fire I have always loved to sing, especially my favorite hymns at Mass. I joined my church choir because I wanted to be able to sing out more freely. The choir experience is very gra fying and enables me to work with others and to express myself more fully. Choir is about teamwork, community, and developing a stronger understanding of music. It is a way for people to connect with one another and to par cipate in a highly rewarding ac vity. Choir is a safe, warm, and accep ng environment. Alan Garcia Music has always been a large part of my life, but it was only a er I joined the choir that I felt God s call truly fulfilled. I was drawn to the St. Norbert choir because I enjoyed the music they sang and the harmonies that blended so beau fully. The wonderful people in the choir and the music that we sing keep me coming back week a er week. If you are looking for a great ministry to be part of, I wholeheartedly recommend joining the parish choir. A quiénes queremos impresionar? A nosotros mismos? Copyright 2010, World Library Publica ons.
